University of London architecture research Director, Professor Eyal Weizman heads a major European Union project on architecture and human rights. He will deliver the fourth UniSA Nelson Mandela Lecture entitled Walls and wars, rights and ruins: the revelations of forensic architecture.
“From the rubble of Gaza to Darfur’s destroyed villages, scorched Guatemalan earth to satellite surveillance of Iran, architecture and ruins are the vehicle for communicating the meaning of contemporary affairs. With the urbanization of conflict, architecture defines the pathology of our era. Spatial evidence within the fields and forums of war-crime investigation distinguishes this new field of forensic architecture.”
