Join the Australian Institute of Urban Studies SA on Friday 30th October for lunch and a presentation from Dr Jared Thomas on Aboriginal perspectives on place and urban life in South Australia.

Aboriginal people have held a special connection to Country for tens of thousands of years, which underpins their unique belief systems that connect people physically and spiritually to place.

This forum explores traditional Aboriginal perspectives on country and place as well as contemporary perspectives about urban life in South Australia.

Dr Thomas is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Development Officer, Arts South Australia and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of South Australia.

Jared is a Nukunu person of the Southern Flinders Ranges who grew up in Port Augusta and currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Nukunu People’s Council. He is a writer of fiction and theatre and his 2015 novel ‘Calypso Summer,’ recently joined the 2015 International Youth Library White Raven List – given to books that deserve worldwide attention because of their universal themes and exceptional artistic and literary style and design.
